Battery Drawer Installation

Fifth Wheel Camper Battery Compartment

The Basics

This is a pretty straightforward project. The camper came with a battery compartment that worked well enough, but was a major pain when it came time to check the water levels in the batteries. After gasping at how expensive professional batteries slide outs were, I decided to order a few high capacity drawer slides from Amazon and make one for myself. Rather than just talk about this project, I thought i would just post a few pictures detailing the entire installation process.

Let's get started with the most important part (besides the batteries, of course)...

Fifth Wheel Camper Battery Compartment Shelf
The new battery shelf. I made this out of spare wood. The tricky part was figuring out where to mount the drawer slides... so one side of this shelf has to be raised up to make the shelf level for the batteries.

The new shelf is mounted to the slides with a few bolts. You can see that the left side slide is a few inches lower then the right side because of how the slides had to be mounted. There weren't a lot of options here.
